StyleWeek 2023 at Fashion Island, Newport Beach

Fashion Week 2023 for Fall Fashions

On Saturday, 9.16.23, I drove eight miles south to Fashion Island to shoot fashion events photographs for Autumn. I went early at nine, and it was very cloudy but humid. It sprinkled a little for an hour, but I found shelter under one of the outdoor furniture umbrellas. At ten, I walked inside Neiman Marcus to browse. They were having a fashion event but no one knew the exact time. At eleven, I decided to go outside for the outdoor event, in which I was registered for. The light rain had stopped, the ground dried up, and the outdoor mall was very busy with families as well as pet dogs on leashes or in strollers. Fashion Island has changed a lot with various remodeling since the nineties. I took 36 snapshots with my Canon EOS 650 with 105mm lens and Kodak UltraMax 400 film as well as my iPhone6.

At the outdoor fashion event, Vanessa Hudgens was interviews about her life, fashion style, home decor style, and fiance. She does many business collaborations with different companies, promoting various products, which includes Cali Water--cactus water.

I drank a can of Cali Water, Prickly Pear flavor, and it tasted refreshing on this humid day. There are different flavors, which includes watermelon.

Afterwards, I realized the indoor event inside Neiman Marcus was at noon, as well, and I wasn't able to attend to both events. I walked around the mall, sampling different treats and drinks as well as taking photographs. It felt like a fun carnival, filled with young people, families, and pet dogs, as I tried to reaquaint myself with the remodeled mall, reminiscing the 80s and 90s, when I used to take my 3 late Shih-Tzus there as well as hang out with my family.

Inside the Neiman Marcus department store, I met a couple from Seattle who were selling their Opulus aging cream. I do need it right now, but it is kind of expensive. Maybe in the near future, at another similar event. They gave me a complimentary box of chocolates with art design on top. As I browsed inside the department store, I remembered one December, around 1998, when I worked I worked as a giftwrapper inside a room with other people, just so I can make some extra money and shop at Neiman Marcus with discounts. I bought some cute clothes that months.

I got lost trying to maneuver through the mall because it was a little different. But it was still a fun fashion adventure.

I dropped off my roll of film at Pro Photo Connections and I am anxiously waiting to see how my photographs turned out.

May 2019

After finally self-publishing my graphic novel, Dream Vignettes, on LULU.com, I immediately ordered my copy. Afterwards, when I received my copy in the mail, I immediately started promoting it everywhere I went. I often carried it around with me for display, letting people browse and check out my artwork. But, unfortunately, I was showing it to the wrong group of people, which is anyone. I think my niche is probably young females, even though I didn't draw it for specific people. I drew my graphic novel for fun, for my own enjoyment because I have always wanted to do one.

I drew the front and back cover for my graphic novel on the computer. I even added a barcode from LULU for my graphic novel so that I can sell it globally via many internet sites and bookstores.

I need to find certain places where my niche would hang out and continue my book promotions there. Maybe the mall? fashion events?

New Year 2020

I started my new year doing walking meetups, movie meetups, and mall meetups. I also continued my once a month Improv meetups and Bolshoi Ballet shows. I got my old phone working again, as well as I got a new modem and new netgear router. I have cut down on my coffee consumption due to dehydration issues, as I try to drink more liquids to remain hydrated. I am trying to walk on a daily basis, do yoga at the gym, and ride my huffy bicycle to improve poor circulation issues due to sitting at my computer for a long time.

Red Carpet Fashions 2020

Academy Awards 2020--Eveningwear Fashions

Gold gowns, big billowy skirts and sleeves, gold jacket for men, velvet gowns, one-shoulder gowns, as well as jewel-toned gowns, understated and classic styles, velvet leopard-print gowns, pant suits, gowns of all colors-from pastels to bold colors. There were also slim-fitted silhouette gowns and color-blocking. Other gowns were flowy, with drapery and a huge decorative bow. White gowns were also popular-Salma Hayek wore a white Gucci gown, Cynthia Erivo wore a white Versace gown, and Renee Zellweger wore a white Armani one-shoulder gown.

Diamond jewelry was popular with these gowns. But many celebrities preferred vintage jewelry and accessories as well as statement necklaces.

The Real Real Consignment store in LA was promoted as the store to shop for affordable designer clothes and accessories.

They also talked about making digital movies, which involved digital aging, digital youth for older characters for flashback scenes, and CGI.

It was also noted that the red-carpet area was enlarged to a bigger space for more activities and mingling on the red carpet. While watching my plasma TV screen, I saw a bird's eye view of the red-carpet area, which was mostly black umbrellas moving around on red background. There were also black vans or jeeps on the red carpet, dropping off or unloading stuff from the back. It was raining in LA at 1:00 pm, with on and off again rain, which is similar to the soft rain in the OC area.

They mentioned the celebrities and parties at Vanity Fair. Bill Porter modeled his sleeveless gold scaly top, orange print billowy gown, and gold platform shoes. He looked like a birds of prey diva.

It was soon noted that the weather was pouring rain in LA. I glanced out my slide door, and noticed it was just cloudy here, although the ground was still wet.

They described the Governor's Ball as the elegant party, filled with warmth and comfort.

1600 people will be attending this year's Oscars. The menu will have a variety of dishes for everyone, but there will be more veggie dishes on the menu. Wolfgang Puck and his team were tossing out mini chocolate-covered Oscars. Saeed House bartender talked about the cocktails, which were named after nominated movies. Joker's Cocktail had mental disorder inspiration array of ingredients. Little Women Cocktail had traditional Xmas-y spice inspiration ingredients. Parasite Cocktail had Korean inspiration ingredients.

Regina King, dressed in a peach gown, was interviewed. Adina Menzel, dressed in flowy fuchsia gown with drapery and a huge bow, and diamonds, also stopped for an interview.

Spike Lee wore a Lakers-inspired jacket with the number 24 to pay tribute to the late Kobe Bryant.

Lily Aldridge and Billy Porter interviewed celebrities on the red carpet before they entered the 92nd, No-Host Oscars at the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.

Walk Like a Fashion Model

The walking style is mostly personal as well as natural for each runway model. Most of these models created their own natural walk. Naomi Campbell stated that her mother taught her to walk like a model. Some models watched video to learn how to walk on the runway. Naomi Campbell taught Gigi Hadid how to walk in a hotel hallway. But it is mostly just practicing on runway jobs.

Many models have fallen during a runway show, but it isn't a big deal anymore because most of them fall for different reasons. They just have to get back up and continue with the show.

Naomi Campbell's mother was a ballet dancer, and Naomi started out as a ballet dancer. When she was 16, her mother taught her how to walk. Many of the young models studied Naomi's walk, as well as other 80s and 90s runway models on Youtube videos because they are known to be the best catwalk models.

Create your Signature Walk...

I wonder what kind of walk I have because I do a lot of street walking at walking meetups, hiking meetups, treadmills, mall hallways, mall alleys, and the downtown garment district during the 80s and 90s. I guess my natural walk tends to be taking long strides briskly, zooming past most people and taking the lead, even though I am not sure where I am going.

Fashion Digital Art on Corel
Fashion Digital Art on Corel

Friday, 11.22.19, I finally uploaded Corel Draw 2019 and Painter Essentials 6, after getting a new modem from Cox. As I am familiarizing myself for Corel Draw, I am loving it. I just need to practice the features and tools until I become comfortable with the new software. I used my latest snapshots from South Coast Plaza window display, and changed the overall image. It now looks like Rose the Hat character in the new 2019 film, Dr. Sleep, which is the sequel to The Shining.

BASIC MUST-HAVES

Casual-Wear

September has always been a big month for fashion. For one thing, the September issue fashion magazines have always been the thickest, filled with colorful fall fashions, right off the fashion week runway shows. Since not everyone is able to attend fashion week events, YouTube videos give you a front row seat at various fashion week runway shows all over the world.

Fall Fashions 2018 in Orange County, California includes bold colors, loafers, ankle boots, corduroys, pleather moto jackets, and bold stripes. Berets, knit beanies, and knit slouchy beans are cozy and warm for autumn's cool weather.

Other must-haves for Fall 2018 include over-the-knee and thigh-high socks, romper worn with tights or hosiery, culottes, wide-legged cropped pants, and 3/4-sleeve cardigan.

Intentionally torn denim clothes continue to be popular for teens and young adults. 80s-style cargo pants in bold colors, cropped denim jackets, and camouflage parkas are popular items for streetwear fashions. Consider yellow, gold, black, burnt orange browns, red, and olive green.

Moreover, I noticed that popular hairstyles for this autumn is shoulder-length, straight, and bangs.

  1. White t-shirt (I do have a couple from the past, and some were actually free from fashion magazine events. I have a JANE Magazine white t-shirt)
  2. Black camisole (I do have some from the past, as well as I have later added more in different colors because I seemed to wear them like tank tops or in a layered outfit).
  3. Blazer (neutral color-black, gray, white, camel, or beige color, and I do have a couple from the past in gray, white, black, and camel, and each of mine are in different styles from different trendy eras, but is still like each one).
  4. Denim pants (everyone has jeans in their wardrobe, and I have many that I love, but I currently need to lose around 5 pounds to get into mine).
  5. Black cigarette pants or skinny jeans-I do have one, as well as leggings).
  6. Trousers (wide-legged tradition pants, and in my case, it is my gray pants and hounds tooth print pants).
  7. White bottom down shirt-everyone has this one, I am sure.
  8. Little Black Dress (It can be any length, whether short, medium, or long, but it must be your style). I do have a couple from my past, but I think my older ones might be too small.
  9. Denim jacket-I have 3 denim jackets from the past, which I wear for different occasions-two are creative and fun, and the third one is now trendy because it has lots of ruffles.
  10. Pleather Jacket or Pleather Moto Vest-I only have a pleather moto vest in a light green color, which isn't neutral but I still like the color and I often wear it with neutral colors, such as all black or another monochromatic dark color for contrast.

I went browsing on youtube, watching different videos, and I thought this video was informative about fashions. I think it is interesting because it is the must-have basic foundation in any wardrobe, which should be in a neutral color so you can build on it with your colored, prints, and trendy items in order to bring out your individual personality in a creative and unique way. You don't have to use the neutral colors and brand names that she has because everyone has their own personal preference. It is important to really know yourself, your lifestyle, and your personal style in order not to frivolously waste your money on items you don't really want or need.

This video also lists three other must-haves--a black turtleneck, black crewneck sweater, and black coat, in which are perfect for cooler months. I have two pea coats-one in aubergine and one in gray, in which I only really wear in autumn and winter. My sweaters and turtlenecks are different colors, and I don't plan to wear any in the next two or three months. But I think that this video is a good one to summarize the must-have basics of any wardrobe.
